Working from found and collected images, from sources such as films, magazines and old photo albums, I use the act of painting as a means to elevate the importance and relevance of what might otherwise be forgotten or ignored.
The source material is important as it dispenses with my involvement with a known/familiar subject and is replaced with a response to my subjects photographed appearance. The lack of history and information lends itself to being exploited and expanded upon.
No piece of work could be made without acknowledging the influence my surroundings have on my work. We live in a time where we are all more connected and aware of others than ever before but which perversely seems to have led to an attitude of disregard and abandon.
