Doily

Sally Richardson // http://www.sallylrichardson.wordpress.com

My work explores methodical tasks, repetition, and the physical nature of creating. I am interested in exploring the social aspects – particularly for women – of creating constructed textile decorations. Using a range of knitting, crochet, lacemaking, weaving, and tatting to inform my drawing I hope to ask questions about the objects that are being drawn. Doilies are particularly interesting to me as they come with a whole set of meanings that are quite distinct from their chintzy exterior. By making my drawings on pages from instructional textile magazines the link between the process and the object is made clearer, and the instructions themselves take on a more abstract meaning.
